Improvisation, Grooves & Jazz Chamber Music für alle klassischen Schüler & Studenten (insbesondere Streicher, Bläser & PianistInnen)

 

Ziel dieser praxisorientierten Workshops ist es, der eigenen Kreativität musikalisch freien

Lauf zu lassen und im Ensemble relaxed zu spielen.

Jeder Teilnehmer gewinnt Einsicht in die Basics der Improvisation und dem Phrasing cooler

Grooves. Motto: Let go and get it played!

Im Einzelunterricht und im Ensemble wird Basistheorie erarbeitet, und – viel wichtiger –

es werden mit und vom Vortragenden und Autor Michael Publig u.a. eigens zusammengestellte

und komponierte Ensemblestücke in Form von Jazz Chamber Music-Patterns

(«Groovicals») gespielt, die alle wesentlichen Bausteine kombinieren:

1) Time (Rhythmus): Artikulation, Phrasing, Essential Grooves (Swing, Even eighths wie z.B.

Latin oder Pop);

2) Changes (Harmonie): Basic voicings (Chord qualities), Erhellung des mystischen

Jazzharmonie-Dschungels;

3) Blowing (Melodie): Skalen und deren praktische Umsetzung, Approach notes, Guide Tones,

Motiventwicklung; kurz – was und wie soliere ich?

Desweiteren werden Parts von Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul, George Gershwin

u.a. Jazz Chamber Music-Masters gespielt und diskutiert.

Der Autor stellt die eigens dafür geschriebenen Skripten zur Verfügung.

Nach dieser Workshop-Woche kennt jede(r) TeilnehmerIn die Grundsätze des freien Spiels

und ist fähig, selbstständig zu improvisieren.

Keinerlei Vorkenntnisse nötig, alle Instrumente sind willkommen!

Einzige Voraussetzung zur Teilnahme: Freude am gemeinsamen Spielen und Grooven!

 

Why Improvising?

First and foremost–it´s real fun! It´s most enjoyable to express yourself instantly.

The other thing is, it sharpens your mind and helps to understand music in general. By knowing detailed musical material you will be able to understand the underlying musical concept(s) – which, in turn, also improves your CLASSICAL playing!

Obtaining rhythm stability isn´t bad either; in fact rhythm is the means of communication in music, if Pop, Jazz, Blues or even classical music.

And then, we´ll discover other musical cultures, incorporating other musical worlds like South America, Africa, Asia and so on.

PIANIST: Diplome with Roland Batik (Vienna music conservatory); International projects in the fields of contemporary art music (chamber music), Jazz, Brazilian music, Tango Nuevo and Flamenco.

COMPOSER: (works in the fields of contemporary art music as well as popular music); award winner of several composition competitions. Performances of his works in Europe, Asia, Australia and the USA; radio broadcasts.

ARRANGER, EDITOR, AUTHOR: Publications in various musical fields with several international publishing houses (Austria, Germany, USA, China).

Among them several editions for children (teaching purposes). Additionally, e.g., unpublished edition of the almost entire complete works of Chick Corea (2021at Hal Leonard – Chick Corea Omnibook).

TEACHING ACTIVITIES: Arranging at the Vienna music university (at the Anton Bruckner institute) and lecturer at the Amadeus International School Vienna (till 2020); Since 2020 Music professor at de la Salle Vienna.

Numerous workshops and master classes for piano, improvisation, composition and arranging, songwriting, film music, and jazz harmony (at home and abroad, e.g. at the Konservatorium Wien University, Central Conservatory Beijing, Shanghai Conservatory, China), music computer programs.

MUSIC MANAGER: Publishing manager of many years’ standing at Doblinger; panel member in many institutions; organizer of several concerts with the emphasis on “Jazz Chamber Music”; Head of music preparation Hollywood in Vienna, Vienna Music Angels. 

Producer of numerous CDs, 2021 foundation of the labels «publig music».
